Samuel loves Jesus and loves children, so God used him in a very big way.
YOU’VE SEEN THE FILM,
HERE ARE SOME NEXT STEPS
Read James 1:19-27 and consider what it means to be “doers of the word and not hearers only”. Meditate, as well, on what it means to “to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
From Genesis to Revelations, the Bible clearly reveals God’s heart for those who are hurting: the orphan, the widow, the foreigner, etc. Ask the Lord how His Spirit might work through you to extend His love to those who have no one. In the case of the orphan, there are many ways of serving. Humbly ask the Lord how He might make you a doer of the word and not just a hearer.
SHAREProudly proclaim the magnificent love and grace of Jesus Christ by sharing this film with your friends, family, and coworkers online, in your living room, or at church.

Samuel Getahun is the director of Bethzatha Children’s Home Association in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Due to our brief encounter with Samuel and the orphanage (only about an hour and a half), we don’t have that much information to offer on their present state. We do know that adoptions in Ethiopia have slowed significantly and many orphanages have been forced to close their doors due to lack of funding. We ask that you please pray for the orphan crisis in Ethiopia. In the meantime, for more information about orphan care in Ethiopia, check the field ministry, Lifesong for Orphans, featured on the right.
LIFESONG FOR ORPHANS
Lifesong for Orphans works in several countries around the world (including Ethiopia) and they seek to mobilize the church, His body, where each member can provide a unique and special service: some to adopt, some to care, some to give. They pledge that the children they care for will have: No want for food, clothing, medical care, or shelter, fundamental Christian training and discipleship, a quality education to provide a foundation for the future, and continued love and support as they transition into adult living.
THOUGHTS FROM THE FIELD
A CHANCE ENCOUNTER
We met Samuel while visiting the orphanage that he started in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This was a chance encounter in many ways. We were simply visiting the orphanage to hang out and play with kids during our stay in the country. As Samuel was showing us around the orphanage, we had the pleasure of hearing a small slice of his story. His testimony of what God did and is still doing in his life was so profoundly simple and compelling, we felt it had to be told. We quickly got the camera ready and began to shoot. What an awesome Savior we serve!

GOD IS MOVING ALL OVER THE GLOBE, HERE IS WHY WE CHOSE THIS STORY:
This story reveals the grace and provision of the Lord in the life of a man who left everything he knew to care for those who have nothing. Only God can do that in a person and we believe telling this story brings glory to Him!
Samuel left his comfortable life in order to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ to those who were perishing. At the heart of this story is a hunger to join Jesus on mission and we hope it encourages more people to do the same.
PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL
The Gospel story is one of grace, love, and astonishing sacrifice. Not only did Jesus sacrifice His own life in order to give us eternal communion with God, but He empowers us through His Spirit to sacrifice our lives for others as well. Samuel’s story proclaims the truth of what Christ did in his life and in the lives of those who know Him.
